Ever
wonder how often each letter of the alphabet is used to begin a last name
on your file?
The frequency is illustrated below. For example, if you have 5000 files,
about 150 will start with the letter "A". |

information helps to determine the shelf space you should allow for each
letter. If you have 10 folders per inch, you can expect "A" to
require 15 inches of shelf space. |

letters represent 80% of all second-letter positions of the alphabet when
filing by last name in the United States. This information helps to predict
color groups in advance. |
